PSHE is a subject taught in school through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. It helps children and young people to stay healthy and safe, while preparing them to make the most of life and work.
Our sequence of learning aims to develop skills and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, risk-management, team working and critical thinking in the context of three core themes: health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world (including economic wellbeing and aspects of careers education).
Our PSHE curriculum uses the PATHS, Thrive and Steps programmes to develop social competence, self-control and self-esteem. These programmes help pupils to achieve their academic potential and empowers all children to develop the essential social and emotional skills to enable them to make their own informed choices throughout life.
Being ‘ready to learn’ and having good behaviours for learning such as resilience, perseverance, confidence and independence are the essential foundations for effective teaching and learning to take place.
The PAThS Curriculum is a school-based programme which aims to improve emotional and social competencies in primary school children. A specific curriculum is taught throughout the school that involves two to three weekly activity sessions that take place throughout the school year. Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development (SMSC) as well as British Values objectives are also incorporated in the PAThS sequence of learning.
